1 Cact to show how the product is made?
The truth is that it can be done and there are several examples that prove it. They are common in businesses linked to new ways of doing tourism, especially those that have to do with rural tourism, the agricultural sector.
Wine tourism, for example, "contains many possibilities because it is an activity with a great projection", defines Martín Hernández-Palacios, director of the Aliter business school. The latest fashion in rural tourism is to become a grape picker. At least for a day. Accompanying the laborers of the Tío Pepe wineries costs 30 euros. Of course: the wine tasting and the corresponding tapas tasting included.
In general, it is possible to charge (if there is demand, logically) to see the manufacturing processes of products whose elaboration contains some particularity or striking curiosity. Many companies, in fact, have created museums in which they charge a ticket to see how their articles are made.
2. Make the most of the surface of your business
Making the most of the excess space in a premises is usually one of the most common ways to make the most of the possibilities of a business. This is something that in many sectors has been done for a long time. "Many bars pay the rent of the premises with the income from the exploitation of the slot machines," explains Miguel Ángel Fraile, secretary general of the Spanish Confederation of Commerce (CEC).
More current is the trend of implementing corners to take advantage of the space of a commercial premises. Both these, as the stands, or small stalls with an area of 15 to 20 square meters that are installed in some large spaces, serve to make profitable products that, otherwise, would be more difficult to promote and market.
“It is about entering establishments that already have a preferential location, presenting alternative business models to give greater appeal to products that previously did not have that facility and taking advantage of the synergy that occurs when two brands with hooks operate under the same roof. ”, Explains Miguel Ángel Oroquieta, deputy director of the consulting firm Tormo & Asociados.
3. New activities within the same business
Another possibility is to find a new way to market a product within the same premises. This is what many restaurants have traditionally done. For Jaume Llopins, professor at the IESE business school, “with the smoking ban and the points card, cigars and wine are less in demand”. Faced with these restrictions, it is time to find new alternatives. And this is what the chain of Catalan gastronomy restaurants-shops Origen 99.9% has done, for example, where the customer receives information about the product before buying or tasting it. Another example is that of many agricultural companies that, to complement the sales of their main activity, have installed solar panels on their land to exploit this emerging business.
4. When the farm is after hours
The rental of a premises covers 24 hours a day. However, most businesses put it at a maximum use of just eight or ten. They lose the night, although there are experiences in which they even take advantage of the night to continue making a business profit. For example: when the day falls, the Mayorazgo and Squash El Limonar clubs, in Malaga, turn into nightlife venues.
5. Recycling can be profitable too
Recycling is a source of income that farmers, manufacturers, restaurants, businesses and companies of all kinds take advantage of. It can be agricultural waste to generate biodiesel and sawdust turned into feed or fertilizer. In the hospitality industry, the sale of used oil is still a formula that compensates for its great use and the offices give out empty toner cartridges and bullets of paper. On the Internet there are two useful platforms that can guide you: www.solostocks.com or www.acambiode.com.
6. Get a few thousand euros from your know how
The development of your activity contains a great accumulation of specialized knowledge that is of great value. One way to make it profitable is by organizing courses. Publishers, musical instrument shops, restaurants, hotels or farms make use of your specialized knowledge
