The saga of Huawei, Google and the future of the Chinese company with Android has taken a new turn with the following news: HarmonyOS will be the official name of the operating system (derived from pure Android, without Google apps) that will take center stage in all Huawei's gadgets for the next three years.
The switch will be gradual since from September 2019 it will be implemented in a new range of smart screens, to later move to tablets, smart watches and telephones. No older device, it seems, will replace its version of Android with HarmonyOS.
Of course, this project was what in May was known as HongMengOS and Huawei's kind of secret weapon in case of having a fractured relationship with Google, which is exactly what happened.
Other companies, such as LG with WebOS, also use alternative platforms to Android with the Play Store and Google Apps, although they have not been as exploited in the media as in the case of Huawei's break with Google due to the geopolitical problems of the United States and China.
