With the iPhone 11 announced, which team is better for a Mexican?

Apple announced the next step, as in every October, of its mobile devices. With the ever-present threat from Huawei, and token competition from Google with the Pixels, the Cupertino company has lagged several years behind in mass audience tastes and in-store preferences.

In the first place, since the iPhone X (with the dollar conjuncture at 20MXN) it became really prohibitive for the average Mexican to have a new or current generation device from Apple. While in the days of the iPhone 5S it was not unreasonable to have the best equipment (with its most austere version of internal memory) for up to 500 pesos a month, the matter progressively increased until we reached "offers" for iPhone 8 at ATT for 800 pesos per month after giving a down payment 10%, and with commitments for 30 months.

With leaving the line X, Apple made things a bit more complicated by offering its best chip of 2017 also in the iPhone 8, which took up a great little idea (the just glossy of the iPhone 4) in the same body that offered from the iPhone 6 (and if we go to those, from the first iPad Mini). Then there were three new phones with the same chip: iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X.

In 2018, things were more lunatic as the iPhone 8 continued to be offered as the cheap but sometimes an iPhone was cheaper XR which had the A2 chip… just like the iPhone XS and XS Max. Four sizes of iPhone in store.

In 2019, it looks like this:

  • iPhone 8 as the most economical option and with the A11 chip, the same as the iPads of 2017 and 2018. You will surely find it cheap in balances, even better if it is the relatively scarce iPhone 8 Plus. I recommend it second-hand or in an eventual Linio or department sale.
  • iPhone XR:  Save my words, Mexico is going to be upholstered with this colorful telephone and with flagship 2018. Colors make it more attractive. Its cost at the end of 2019 should be between 12 and 14 thousand pesos maximum.
  • iPhone X: Not available, and not that popular. Think of it as a transitional model not as popular in Mexico as the iPhone 5S and 4S.
  • iPhone XS and XS Max: Too expensive to pay attention to, plus it is immediately replaced by the iPhone 11 Pro line. And I insist, with the XR you don't need it. Besides that it is up for debate if the OLED screen used by the XS and X is really worse than the LCD of the 8 and XR (yes it is).
  • iPhone 11: The Classic 11 is the same size (5.6 inches) as the XR and pretty much replaces it. If you go to updgrade from iPhone 7 is definitely your option. If you go from 8, it is vanity, unless they give you a super price. In deadly terms: If the difference with the XR were 2,000 pesos or less, don't even think about it. It has two rear cameras of the same capacity, and with the absence of the third (which the Pro does have), you only lose one telephoto.
  • iPhone 11 Pro: Smaller than the classic 11, and the size of the X or XS. It has the famous three cameras, and unless you are a professional social media photographer or a filmaker practical, you don't need them. Only if you have money to spare.
  • iPhone 11 Pro Max: It is the one that Carlos Slim would bring. Same case of the previous one, the cameras are great for your selfies or vacation photos. But if you like beans, you go.
