New and sophisticated technological devices are emerging with the same speed with which many others become obsolete. The RIA Novosti agency lists 11 'candidates' to disappear from our daily lives.

Bank cards

Biometric technologies will soon replace plastic cards in the field of customer identification. The many remote payment banking applications via smartphones will also contribute to making cards obsolete.

Digital media

In five years, optical disc drives, along with some hard drives, will disappear completely. Although computers equipped with optical disc drives are still manufactured, their use is no longer necessary. Hard drives will soon be displaced by USB sticks that will drive them out of the market.

Analysts have been predicting the demise of personal computers for a decade.
