Just a few minutes ago the International Olympic Committee granted the exclusive to América Móvil broadcast of all the XXII Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia in 2014, as well as the XXXI Olympic Games to be held in Rio de Janeiro in 2016.
With this determination, the committee ruled that the company owned by Carlos Slim "Has acquired the broadcasting rights on all media platforms throughout Latin America, except Brazil".
After the announcement the shares of the company increased by 4.31% to be valued at 12.35 pesos after last week they will reach their lowest level in the last 4 years.
Gerardo Copca, analyst at the consulting firm Metanálisis commented on the announcement:
América Móvil is going to have more profits than losses, because it will not only participate in telephony, it will probably be able to participate in television, which it has been searching for so much, and that can compensate for the loss in markets where it is the majority
For his part Arturo Elías Ayub, Director of Strategic Alliances of Telmex said he was happy with the negotiation of América Móvil with the International Olympic Committee
